Euro News Memo: Brave New World

I said I’d never do this. But then that was a probably rather than a certainly. Were it a certainly, we wouldn’t be here now, would we?

I did not think I’d ever write a blog. It just never seemed my sort of thing. But the last time I actually thought about this, many things that I do now, were probably not my thing. Politics, current affairs, the news, the Liberal Democrats, studying for my BA, history, reading, German. And the EU. (In case you weren’t sure, that was a crash course on me).

The EU, and Europe in general, is something that has grabbed a hold of me and my interest quite suddenly, unexpectedly and powerfully. A couple of years ago Europe was not really on my radar – like most Britons I might add. I knew of such thing as the EU existing, but I did not know what it did, why it was there, whether it mattered. Unlike many people in such a position, I was not turned against the EU. I flung myself wholeheartedly into believing in and supporting it. And that is what this blog will be about. Not specifically my support of the EU, but my opinion on the current affairs of the day. With the Eurozone moving to ever closer integration, the Greek Crisis still unresolved, elections taking place across the bloc, effectively all of them going to show the powers that be just how much people have had of “ever-closer-union” and most importantly of all on our little island – the coming referendum on being a part of the EU, and that damned Brexit debate.

As a convinced supporter, I am not a fan of this referendum. But that is because I know in my heart that likewise many Britons are not fans of the EU either. And so I must concede as a believer in democracy that this referendum is necessary. And therefore fighting the in campaign is also necessary and will be one of the core pillars of this blog.

I’ll have some witty remarks (hopefully) and less important EU and sometimes not EU-related news. I’ll talk about articles I found interesting on other news sites and I’ll criticise that which I disagree with. I am open to debate. I’ll admit when I’m wrong. But on the EU, I doubt I’ll budge.

Just so we’re clear, that’s where this site stands on the referendum. That’s what this blog will tirelessly and continuously push for and that is what I’ll argue for as long as this blog goes on. So if that’s alright with you, sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

    1. I’m thinking either about the euro or my take on the initial punches of the Brexit debate
