Hello all,
As you may have noticed, a few things have changed around here at the blog; we’ve had a facelift, hooray! To reflect the fact that this blog has shifted from being what I originally intended for it – an essentially news-based platform – to something far more argumentative and based on my beliefs, not just about Europe but about European democracy in general, I have changed the site’s name to ‘Dimokratía’, or democracy in Greek. As you can see under the new logo, it is there written in the original Greek. Why Dimokratía? Because it sounds better to me than democracy. Also, democracy is a concept originating from Greece and as a lover of history and tradition to some extent, I felt that this made sense.
What does this mean? Beyond the new name, colours and symbol, not much. However to those out there interested it signals my intention to make this a bigger part of my life in the future, if I can. How long away that will be, and what exactly it will mean, I am unsure yet. But first thing’s first, I wanted to move this away from me personally, yet conversely focus it more on my ideology when it comes to Europe. Rest assured, no news coverage will be lost. I hope you’ll all agree that whilst my opinions feature in every article, I try my best to cover the facts first and then move on to more opinionated prose, the distinction between being clear. Ultimately, the fact that every media outlet is biased is not so much the problem, as those who pretend they’re not and are instead reporting only facts.
As for the web address, that will for now remain the same. I rely too much on it to attract traffic to the site, so it may be a little confusing. The site is now called Dimokratía, and this is what I will refer to it as from now on (though simply ‘Democracy’ may also be used, though I hope people will understand that there’s little practical distinction). The web address will change at some time in the future, when I can afford the new domain (in which I hope to jettison the ‘.wordpress.com’ part) and the mapping required for the old links to link to the new domain. For now as I said, evrodimo.wordpress.com remains the web address.
I hope you all like the new site aesthetic and I cannot wait to continue writing for you all.
Your writer,
Sam Hufton
